This time last year they were asked to step forward for voluntary redundancy to help balance the books.
Now, Highland Council staff are being asked for fresh ideas on how the local authority could be more efficient and generate income.
As the next budget approaches, a working group, comprising councillors, officers and others, is seeking views on how to adapt to “the changing needs in our communities, with less public funding.”
It has launched an online facility to harvest staff ideas.
Chairwoman of the redesign board, council convener Isobel McCallum, said: “Staff are experts in their own fields of service and valuable sources of information when considering change and new ways of delivering those services.”
Unison union representative John Gibson said: “Staff have chosen to work for the council and to live and work in their communities.
“The best people to give advice on how to improve services and make them more efficient are the people who deliver them.”
The new online facility is expected to be widened for public use in the near future.
