A drunk Inverness man assaulted a taxi driver who threw him out of the vehicle because he refused to pay the fare.

But before 21-year-old Thomas Marello unleashed a flurry of blows to Shaun Dougan’s head and body on November 16, he smashed a wine bottle on the cab, Inverness Sheriff Court was told.

Marello, of Fir Place, Culloden, admitted vandalism and assault charges and was ordered to carry out 240 hours of unpaid community work by Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood.
