Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault on a teenage girl and a serious attack on a man in Inverness.
Both incidents happened in a city neighbourhood in the early hours of new year’s day.
The force said a lone 17-year-old girl was approached by a man in the Black Bridge and Grant Street area around 3.30am on Sunday.
The man is described as white, aged about 40, of slim build and with an unkempt appearance.
Police have urged members of the public who may have been in the area at the time, or have any information about the incident, to contact them on 101 or, Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a man was found with serious injuries in the area of Craigton Avenue and Bridgeview Drive, between 1.30am and 2.30am on Sunday.
Police said that a member of public found him lying on the street having sustained serious injuries to his face and head, and the force appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Local councillor Donnie Kerr said he hoped the culprits would be caught in both cases.
“It’s sad that at this time of year you have incidents like this happening. It’s sad to see it any time of year, but especially now,” he said.
“I’m afraid people who are violent don’t take a break over Christmas and new year.
“It doesn’t do anything for the area when you hear these types of things. These are not daily occurrences here.
“I hope in both cases the people are recovering and the police investigate and come up with some results.”
