A 47-year-old Aviemore man who abused his wife was fined £600 at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.
Mark Harold, formerly of the town’s Birch Road and now of Innerleithen Way, Perth, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his partner Helen in their home on March 17. He also admitted shouting and swearing at police officers.
Fiscal depute Martina Eastwood told the court that Harper was “heavily intoxicated” and argued with his wife.
“He was asked to leave but returned later to find the house locked up.
“He was demanding entry and then threw a wooden log through the window. Police were called and he was traced but he shouted and swore and tried to get away from the officers.” Mrs Eastwood said.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood commented: “This is the second time he has done this to her in a very short time.”
Defending, Patrick O’Dea replied: “His marriage came to an end that day and he drowned his sorrows. He is ashamed of his conduct.”
A teenage hotel worker fell out with a colleague and stole her engagement ring.
But Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday that the ring was worth £23,000 and 18-year-old Danielle Flanighan had sold it to an Inverness pawn shop for £1,600.
Flanighan, who now lives in Kilmarnock with her parents but had been staff resident at the Loch Erricht Hotel in Dalwhinnie admitted the theft on October 26, 2016.
Her solicitor Rory Gowans said: “There was a fall-out and it was a spontaneous act. We are dealing with an immature woman who has no previous convictions and made a significant mistake.
“The ring was recovered.” he added.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwodd ordered Flanighan to be under social work supervision for a year, and carry out 240 hours of unpaid work.
He said: “Gross dishonesty of this sort deserves a period of imprisonment. But given your lack of record, I will impose the alternative.
“You caused misery to your fellow worker as a result of your greed.”
