A 35-year-old Inverness man was jailed for three months yesterday for stealing a mobile phone in a city pub after a worker there left it unattended.
Alistair Reid pleaded guilty to the charge of finding and stealing the phone, worth £300, in Wetherspoons without attempting to discover who owned it, on July 7 last year.
Fiscal depute Ross Carvel told Inverness Sheriff Court that CCTV showed Reid making a “bee line” for the phone before taking it and leaving “hurriedly”.
Reid’s defence solcitor, Duncan Henderson, said his client had a “lengthy history” of dishonesty and that there is a clear link between his mental health and his offending.
