A prime development site in Inverness has gone on the market for more than £1.25million as the Forestry Commission prepares to relocate.
The commission’s workshop on the north side of the city’s Harbour Road is up for sale and several notes of interest have already been expressed.
Car dealerships are expected to be keen on the 1.3-acre site in the Longman Industrial Estate and a closing date for bids is expected to be set soon.
The Forestry Commission is carrying out a phased withdrawal from the site to new premises at nearby Henderson Road, with the move expected to be completed by the end of September.
A spokesman confirmed last night that the old workshop was “surplus to requirements” as Forestry Enterprise Scotland was “moving the function to a smaller premises”.
The move will not have any impact on jobs.
The land at Longman is currently has three workshop and storage buildings, with a concrete dock leveller in the centre.
A small portion of the rectangular-shaped site at the rear is on a long lease from Highland Council, which would be passed to the new owners.
The property is on sale for offers of more than £1.25million, and is being marketed by Shepherd Chartered Surveyors.
Sandy Rennie, a partner in the firm’s Inverness office, said: “We’ve had a number of notes of interest already and we would anticipate a closing date being set.
“It’s probably the best site in Harbour Road. It’s got fantastic frontage and is right for development.”
He added: “This prime site provides a rare opportunity for a purchaser to comprehensively redevelop a much sought after industrial location for owner occupation or investment purposes, subject to planning.
“Prospective purchasers should make their own enquiries as to the suitability of their proposed use.”
In marketing documents, the firm describes it as a “prime industrial redevelopment opportunity”.
It adds: “The property benefits from a high-profile roadside location and enjoys easy connections to the main road network with the A82, A9 and A96 all readily accessible.”
