A 16-year-old sustained facial injuries in an attack in the early hours of this morning.
The teenage boy was approached by an unknown man before the assault took place in a lane just off Falcon Square in Inverness at around 1.30am.
He was later taken to the city’s Raigmore Hospital for treatment.
Officers are keen to speak to the unknown man, who was riding a bicycle and was wearing a grey hooded top and grey tracksuit trousers.
Detective Inspector Steven MacKenzie said: “We are appealing for information after this serious assault which has left a young man with facial injuries.
“In particular, we would like to hear from anyone who was in Falcon Square or the surrounding area in the city centre at about 1.30am on Sunday and saw anything they believe could be suspicious.
“Anyone who believes they may have information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference NN20540/17,or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.”
