A man who downloaded more than 1,600 indecent images and videos of children was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work yesterday.
At a hearing at Inverness Sheriff Court in June, first offender Gilbert Andrews, of Alltan Court, Culloden, admitted downloading the material and possessing it between March and August 2016.
Fiscal depute Roderick Urquhart told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald that police had received intelligence about the illegal activity and Andrews’ computers were seized.
Sentencing Andrews, the Sheriff told him: “These are very serious and unpleasant offences.”
She placed him on the sex offenders register for three years and under social work supervision for the same period.
Andrews has also to participate in a programme designed to help rehabilitate him.
