Reports of a hand glider going down on the north side of Loch Ness appear to have been a false alarm.
The Loch Ness Lifeboat, Inverness Coastguard Rescue Team and the coastguard helicopter from Inverness were all called out after the alarm was raised just after 5.30pm.
A spokeswoman for Aberdeen Coastguard said: “We no longer believe it to be a hand glider. We believe it to have been a small helium balloon. We are still waiting to get confirmation exactly what it was.
“It seems to have been a false alarm with good intent.”
