Police have confirmed today that a woman’s body has been recovered after a blaze destroyed a house in Inverness.
Emergency services battled the fire at the Island Bank Road property from around 1.55am on Friday.
Police initially said a 71-year-old woman, who lived in the house was unaccounted for but inquiries suggested she was inside when the flames took hold.
Today they confirmed that after gaining access to the house yesterday, they have found a woman’s body.
Formal identification is yet to take place but the family of Margaret McArthur has been informed.
Detective Inspector Steven Mackenzie said: “Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“Inquiries into the fire are ongoing with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish the full circumstances.
“However, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
