About 20,000 spectators gathered on the banks of the River Ness on Saturday evening for a bonfire and fireworks extravaganza at Bught Park in Inverness.
Weather conditions were cold, but calm and dry for the event, and cheers reverberated as bursts of colour lit the clear skies above the Highland capital.
Families and friends stood beside the 50ft bonfire as it towered above the pitches and kept themselves warm from the low temperatures.
Event organiser Gerry Reynolds said: “The atmosphere was tremendous. The event passed completely without incident and people were really well behaved and they were very enthusiastic.
“It was a massive crowd. There were crowds on the riverside and people were standing right down along both sides of the river.”
Mr Reynolds confirmed there was a short delay to the Highland Council-organised event when wind gusts picked up above 10mph, which meant the Fireworx Scotland Display Team had to make some last-minute adjustments.
But the subsequent fireworks display lasted about 20 minutes and elicited a positive response from all those who witnessed the pyrotechnics.
A crowd of nearly 200 people also enjoyed the display from the vantage point at Inverness Castle.
After enjoying performances by the City of Inverness Youth Pipe Band and the Fly Agaric Firestormers Display Team, the throng cheered loudly when Provost Helen Carmichael stepped forward to light the giant bonfire.
Afterwards, councillor Trish Robertson, of the Inverness Events and Festivals Working Group, thanked the thousands of spectators who had answered the council’s call to park well away from the site and walk to the event.
Ms Robertson said: “The support of the drivers bringing families to the show played a major role in keeping the traffic congestion to a minimum on the night and was greatly appreciated. “
In Fort William, hundreds of people turned out at Stramash outdoor nursery for a bonfire and 15-minute fireworks display on Saturday.
In Oban, the main event was arranged to lluminate the community’s famous harbour – always a spectacle with the colours reflecting boldly upon the water’s surface.
And in Dornoch, hundreds were left delighted by the large bonfire and 15-minute firework display at the Meadows on Saturday evening.
