Members of the public who have had flu-like symptoms are being asked to stay away from hospitals so as not to spread it.
NHS Highland has advised people to be aware that festive cheer is not all they could be passing on when they they catch up with family and friends during the holidays.
Flu is a common infectious viral illness spread by coughs and sneezes. It can be very unpleasant. It can be caught all year round but it’s especially common in winter and a number of cases are being seen within the community.
With this in mind NHS Highland is asking members of the public who have flu like symptoms to avoid visiting loved ones in hospital.
Catherine Stokoe, infection control manager for NHS Highland said: “Coming in to hospital to visit a family member or friend when you have been ill with symptoms such as those associated with flu could put them, and our other patients, at risk so we would ask that you hold off visiting until you are better.”
Flu is very infections and can be serious but symptoms can usually be managed at home by resting, keeping warm and drinking plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Paracetamol can also be taken to help ease some of the symptoms.
