A class of primary school pupils from Inverness have been all hands to the pump as the fire fighters give them a taste of working life.
Pupils from Raigmore Primary School got to operate the hoses with members of the Scottish Fire Service as the team gave pupils an insight into the skills and attributes needed to be a member of the service.
The visit was part of a week-long Scottish Government World of Work Programme aiming to give pupils an insight into working life and reduce youth unemployment through creating links between pupils, parents, schools and employers.
Kelly MacBean, class teacher at Raigmore Primary said: “We all enjoyed an amazing week and there was a real buzz around the school.
“The overarching focus was for the children to develop an understanding of the workplace, the variety of employment opportunities available and the different skills required in different industries – and we definitely achieved this.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer for Highland, Rab Middlemiss, said: “This was a fantastic event – the pupils involved were a credit to their schools and community.
“It is always a privilege to be invited into our local schools to give youngsters a close-up look at how their fire service works.
“By lending a guiding hand, and working with our partners, we hope to help young adults make informed and positive choices for themselves and their communities and even change public perception of youngsters for the better.”
Pupils were also given lessons in first response from the Scottish Ambulance Service and took part in several culinary workshops, including pizza making at Frankie and Benny’s and cooking demonstrations courtesy of Lochardil House.
