Fresh CCTV images reveal new details about Liam’s movements after disappearance

Liam Colgan has been missing in Hamburg after not returning from a night out.
Liam Colgan has been missing in Hamburg after not returning from a night out.

CCTV images have revealed new details about the movements of missing Inverness man Liam Colgan after he disappeared during his brother’s stag party in Germany.

The 29-year-old’s family have confirmed the sighting, recorded about an hour after he was last seen in the Veermaster Bar in Hamburg 10 days ago.

The footage shows Mr Colgan arriving at the vehicle barrier of premises belonging to G&J publishers in Baumwall, Hamburg, at about 2.20am on Saturday, February 10.

A witness reports seeing him and helping him up the steps to the main entrance of the building after he fell. This is also corroborated by the CCTV.

The footage goes on to show Mr Colgan trying unsuccessfully to get into the building, before walking towards the Michelwiese Park.

He is helped again by the same witness to get into this park, and is last seen heading towards the Portuguese quarter at around 2.30am.

Mr Colgan’s family are now receiving support from the Lucie Blackman Trust, set up to help families whose loved ones have gone missing or died abroad.

The trust has launched an urgent appeal for information or CCTV which reads: “Were you in the Baumwall area or Portuguese quarter of Hamburg around 2.30am on February 10? Do you have access to any CCTV or photos taken that night? Do you remember seeing a man acting confused or lost? Please email ops@lbtrust.org with information.”

Liam vanished in the early hours of February 10 during a pub crawl in the Reeperbahn red light district.

Since then, officers have checked waterways, scoured CCTV and used sniffer dogs to help trace the Royal Mail worker’s scent.

On Sunday, fresh fears also emerged for Mr Colgan’s safety following reports that a body had been pulled from the city’s River Elbe. But his brother Eamonn quickly confirmed it was not Liam and urged people to keep searching.

Last week, Eamonn and his fiancee Susan Dolan flew back out to Hamburg to help in the search, while handing out hundreds of posters and flyers with Liam’s information.

Despite having a venue booked to tie the knot on March 2, he said the wedding was the last thing on his mind.

On Wednesday, a bakery worker told police officers one of her colleagues had recognised Liam from the missing posters. Another woman claimed she gave him a bottle of water on the same morning, while another sighting beside a nearby Lidl supermarket was called in on Thursday.
