A 10-year-old kick boxing champion is going for gold after qualifying to compete at the world championships.

Aiden Lennan from Inverness has been practising day and night in a bid to get back to the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (Wako) World Championships in Italy and after winning a Gold and a Bronze medal at the Scottish Championships in Perth, Aiden is determined to come back number one.

Aiden’s mother Diane spoke about her son’s achievements and how the young champ continues to compete in the country’s biggest and toughest competitions.

She said: “Last weekend it was the Wako British Championships, the biggest competition in the UK. It was a tough competition, for the 10 to 12 category, as he is the bottom age and the other competitors were bigger, more experienced, and older than him but he battled his way all the way to the final.

“This week he is away to do training with a GB coach and on Thursday he is away to the Wako Irish open in Dublin; where 4,000 competitors will complete from countries including Australia, America, Russia, Italy, Spain, England and Scotland.”

As well as having dreams of winning the title of world champion, he also wants to compete in the Olympics as a member of the GB team – an accolade he can now strive for.

Mrs Lennan spoke of her pride at what her son has achieved. She added: “We are super proud of him. He loves the sport and we can’t wait to see what comes next. We would love for him to go into the WAKO GB team and go to Italy and come back world champion. It would make his life and his year.”
