Highland Council has issued a reminder to Inverness businesses that new bin collection regulations come into force on Monday.
No bins in Inverness city centre can now be stored on public pavements or streets except in designated areas.
If waste is not collected within an agreed period then the business will be forced to return it to their premises.
All bins must also display the business name and collection time. Waste is only permitted to be placed outside for collection when the business is staffed, and never overnight.
Also from Monday, council staff will start a four-week period of “proportionate enforcement” that will see those stickered for “non-compliance.”
The Inverness City Area Committee adopted the regulations in a bid to reduce the amount of waste containers on the streets to improve the look and feel of the city.
It also wanted to clean up the amount of litter derived from trade waste and to encourage businesses to manage their waste more responsibly and recycle more.
The move also seeks to increase public safety issues by removing tripping hazards and blocking footways, particularly for visually impaired or disabled people.
The impact and benefits of the project will be evaluated after 12 months.
