Seven trees have been planted at Maggie’s Highland as a “meaningful tribute” to a husband and father who died last year.
Lynda Fraser lost her husband Stuart to cancer last December and now wants to use the trees as a memorial to him.
The idea started with Maggie’s cancer support centre in Inverness because Mrs Fraser felt the grounds could be a place for “reflection.”
She said: “We want to plant 58 trees because Stuart died when he was 58 years old and he had a great love for nature.
“I got speaking to people at the centre and said I could do some fundraising. We didn’t want to just give money.
“They were already planning to landscape the grounds so we personally paid for the trees and planted them.”
She added: “We had a piper and that is fitting because Stuart loved the pipes. I planted the last tree to Caledonia because he loved that song.”
Mrs Fraser, son Conrad and daughter Samantha now plan to map out appropriate places to plant more trees or shrubs.
She added: “It is really just a journey following in Stuart’s footsteps, his life, places that he loved and had meaning for him.
“There is no right or wrong way to grieve and it takes people on different journeys and this is ours for us to reflect on.
“I just hope the trees could bring some inspiration, I hope they are going to bring a bit of life.”
Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Highland, Andrew Benjamin, said: “The fact that we have got seven beautiful trees is wonderful.
“It is something people at the centre will be able to enjoy for years to come and we are very, very grateful to Lynda and the family for raising the money to do it.”
