A mysterious bequest to Inverness of more than £13,000 which will be passed to the city’s Common Good Fund.
Ms Lydia Geernaert who is from Ghent in Belgium made a provision in her will of €15,000 to the City of Inverness.
Provost Helen Carmichael has written to the executors of the late Ms Geernaert’s will to express her thanks on behalf of people of Inverness.
Provost Carmichael wrote that “this most generous gift” would be “placed in the City of Inverness Common Good Fund which is dedicated to benefit the residents of the Burgh of Inverness.”
She added: “I am sure I speak for the citizens of Inverness and my fellow Inverness Councillors in saying how proud it makes me feel to know that Ms Geernaert felt such a strong connection with our wonderful city.”
Ms Geernaert was born in the city of Ghent and it is believed she may have visited or spent part of a holiday in Inverness inspiring her to think of leaving money to the city.
