A hotel night porter who tried to deal with a drunk guest was spat on and sworn at, a court has heard.
Charlie Anderson, 20, of St Andrew’s Square, Elgin, admitted behaving in an abusive manner in the Columba Hotel in Inverness on December 13 last year.
He had admitted assaulting the night porter and then assaulting a police sergeant at Burnett Road Police Station by spitting at him.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that an intoxicated Anderson had gone into the hotel in the early hours and asked the porter for a phone charger.
He then turned nasty when told not to do drink out of the porter’s glass, fiscal depute Robert Weir said.
He added: “Anderson took off his jacket and said ‘ding dong’, which the porter took to mean the start of a boxing match and a fight was about to begin.
“He then swore at the night porter, and spat on him repeatedly. The police were called and after being taken to Burnett Road Police Station, he spat in the direction of the custody sergeant.”
Defence solicitor Duncan Henderson said his client had “no recollection of the incidents”, adding: “In the sober light of day he accepts his behaviour was unacceptable. He has sought help for alcohol.”
Anderson was fined a total of £700 and ordered to pay the night porter £200 in compensation.
