Piper Andrew MacLennan broke the previously held record after playing for more than 26 hours, 5 minutes and 32 seconds. After starting on Thursday around 1.30pm he reached the record shortly after 3.40pm on Friday in the traditional Inverness music venue Hootananny. He was encouraged by friends and supporters who grew louder as each minute passed nearing the record. At the exact moment he broke the record Mr MacLennan stoically continued and only afforded himself a smile during a permitted five minute break. There to support him was Hootananny proprietor Kit Fraser who said hosting the attempt was an “honour.” During the attempt he played for two-minute at a time which is followed by a 30-second breather and he will get a five-minute break every hour.
