The A82 was brought to a halt yesterday afternoon as a fallen tree wreaked havoc to motorists.
The incident occurred shortly after 1.15pm at Lochend on the outskirts of Inverness, with the blockage closing both lanes. Road users were advised to avoid the route if possible.
Two motorcyclists had a lucky escape as the fallen tree tumbled to the road directly in front of them. The first motorcyclist managed to successfully navigate through the falling obstacle; however, the second got caught up in branches from the tree. No injuries were reported.
The fallen tree was partially cleared by locals and tourists allowing the southbound lane to reopen at 1.25pm.
A police spokesman confirmed police officers were on scene to manage traffic and Bear Scotland had been notified of the debris remaining on the road.
Both lanes of traffic reopened at 3.30pm as temporary traffic lights were put in place.
A re-closure of the carriageway occurred as rush hour traffic approached last night, with a cherry picker on scene to aid the clear up of the tree.
