A “rare development opportunity” is being advertised at a prominent site in the heart of Inverness.
Highland Council is taking offers over £70,000 for the Wayside Car Park in Culduthel Road, which is currently being leased to the neighbouring Backpackers hostel.
The sales particulars for the 0.57-acre site – 0.47 acres of woodland and 0.1 acres of car park – have been published by the local authority, which owns the land.
The advertisement states in bold that it is a “rare city centre development opportunity.”
It reads: “Inverness, with an established population of around 60,000, is regarded as the capital of the Scottish Highlands.
“The subjects are situated on Culduthel Road, one of the main roads in the city centre. The city’s iconic building, Inverness Castle, is within sight from the subjects. Local amenities such as shops, bars and restaurants are in close proximity to the subjects.
“Inverness bus and train stations are within walkable distance with regular services to the major cities in Scotland and a direct link to London Euston.”
The notice says that interested parties are advised the seller will gain vacant possession of the site when a purchaser is identified.
A shed located on the northern side of the site does not form part of the sale and this will be removed prior to date of entry.
It is understood the neighbouring Viewmount House to the south of the car park may have acquired prescriptive rights for vehicle and pedestrian access and parking.
Interested parties have been advised to contact the council’s Planning and Building Standards office at the Town House to discuss their proposed use.
Regarding services, it is understood main supply for water, electricity and drainage are available on Culduthel Road.
A closing date by which offers must be submitted may be fixed at a later date.
