Police Scotland yesterday launched an appeal for information following an incident where a man exposed himself in an Inverness cafe.
The incident occurred in the area of the Archie Café on the ground floor of the Eastgate Centre in the city centre around 11.45am on Tuesday.
Leanne Morrison, café assistant at the Archie Café said: “He came in and started acting a bit odd. He comes in about once a month and it is usually in the late afternoon and only has a couple of glasses of milk, but yesterday he came in early and ordered a coffee which was strange.
“He started acting really odd and asking customers to take pictures of him with a teddy in his hand. That was when he opened his trousers. At that point, we asked him to leave.
“It was quite quiet at the time. We had a few customers in and he was just watching what everybody was up to.
“He usually doesn’t talk with us but yesterday, when people were walking by, he was grabbing them and asking them to take photos of him with this teddy.
“We phoned security and they got the police straight away. They came down and checked the CCTV and took statements from us all.”
The man, described as being in his 60s or 70s, was said to be wearing a green military style jacket with stripes on the arm. He is described as slim, of average height and having straggly greying hair.
Police launched the appeal after the man was reportedly behaving indecently.
Constable Jim Boundy, of the City Centre Policing Team, said: “Incidents such as this are very rare in Inverness and I would reassure people that we are taking this extremely seriously.
“The area was busy at the time and we would like to speak to anyone who recognises this man or believes they may have seen him.
“We are particularly keen to speak to two older women who interacted with the man in the Archie Café
“Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
