Gavin Grant died in hospital on Monday after the incident on Saturday.

A 32-year-old man has died in Inverness under circumstances police have said are “unexplained”.

The man, named yesterday as Gavin Grant, died in Raigmore Hospital on Monday following an incident in the Craigard Terrace area of the city on Saturday evening.

The incident reportedly took place around 6.45pm with police appealing for information to assist their inquiries.

Yesterday officers were present outside the property with a cordon being put in place on the driveway of the flat. A blue evidence bag could clearly be seen on the driveway as officers stood by outside of the cordon.

Tributes poured in on social media for Mr Grant, with friend Sally Grant posting on his Facebook page: “Can’t believe this is real. I came to see you today. I was talking about the good days. Even had the nurse laughing at some of the stories. I just got you back and now I have to say goodbye I hate this.”

Kristine Geraghty‎ posted: “You were an amazing guy, Can’t believe you’re gone with the angels Gavin. You will be sadly missed. Never forget the laughs I had with you. Gone but never forgotten!! RIP my friend”.

Laura MacDonald‎ wrote: “Sleep tight Gavin will love and miss you forever you were like my little brother I never had.”

Local residents reported hearing shouting around the time the incident is said to have taken place. One woman, who did not wish to be named, said: “I heard shouting outside around 6.30pm/6.45pm when I went through to have a cigarette in the kitchen.

“My partner was sleeping and I thought it might have been the neighbours watching the rugby or the football.

“I went and had a look out the window out the back as I thought it might be another neighbour playing with their dog or kids outside playing football.

“It was quite foggy on Saturday night so I took a walk down the drive but by that time the shouting had stopped.

“This is normally a quiet area and seeing police and ambulance was bizarre.

“My partner has been living here 18 years and it has always been quiet.”

According to his social media page, Mr Grant attended Grantown Grammar and had worked at Landmark in Carrbridge.

Detectives briefly attended the scene yesterday before leaving a few minutes later after liaising with the constable maintaining a presence outside the property.

Detective Inspector Eddie Ross said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Grant’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“His death is currently being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“A police presence will be maintained in the area while the investigation continues and the local community is thanked for their patience and understanding as these enquiries continue.”

Police have asked anybody with any information which could aid their enquiries to get in touch using 101.
