A soldier has died suddenly at Fort George barracks at Ardersier, near Inverness.
A member of The Black Watch, Corporal Joe Bosman, 26, originally from South Africa, was recently made a UK citizen.
Corporal Bosman had served with Three Scots, The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland for six years.
He died on Wednesday. He had recently served on a peacekeeping tour in Cyprus.
A police spokeswoman confirmed: “Police attended at Ardersier on the morning of Wednesday December 12 to a sudden death at the barracks.
“There were no suspicious circumstances, and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
Major Nick Colquhoun, acting commanding officer of Three Scots, said: “Corporal Bosman was a highly capable, charismatic and above all professional soldier.
“Joe’s death has deeply shocked us all. He will be greatly missed.
“At this tragic time, my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are very much with Joe’s family, his fiancée, and his friends. Their loss I can only begin to imagine.”
