A medical ward at Raigmore Hospital has closed its door to new admissions and visitors following the outbreak of norovirus.
Ward 7C was placed into quarantine today following three confirmed cases of the sickness and diarrhoea bug.
Visitors are being asked to avoid visiting the ward to prevent spreading the virus further. All those wishing to attend the ward will be considered on an individual patient basis around their clinical condition following discussions with staff on the ward.
A spokesman from NHS Highland said: “We would also ask all members of the public that if they have, or live with someone who has, symptoms of diarrhoea and or vomiting they please refrain from visiting any hospital or care home setting until clear of symptoms for 48 hours.”
The virus, which causes diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting, spreads in the air where someone has had diarrhoea or vomited and is extremely infectious. It is important that everyone plays their part in reducing outbreak risks.
The Infection Prevention and Control Team are monitoring the situation with infection control measures being put in place.
