The skyline of Inverness has taken a dramatic shift following the arrival of a 20-tonne tower crane in the city centre.
The crane will remain a permanent fixture at 79 Academy Street until later in the year as construction continues of the £5 million Wyvern House development.
The site – which was once home to Farmfoods – will comprise of 37 one and two bedroom properties, alongside four small shops on the ground floor.
Morrison Construction spent 12 hours getting the mammoth device into position, after three lorries delivered the valuable components – with the largest recorded at 3.6 tonnes.
The firm’s local managing director of building, Donald Mclachlan, said: ‘‘The installation of the tower crane is an important milestone for this project.
‘‘The crane, fixed in the centre of the project site, will be used to lift and secure pre-fabricated sections of the development into place. This will include the steel fame and the cladding for the building.’’
The development has been brought forward in collaboration with The Highland Council and Highland Housing Alliance.
The Provost of Inverness, Helen Carmichael, added: “’By creating much needed quality new homes for local people in the heart of Inverness, we will give it a vibrancy which has been missing.
“I look forward to being able to come back on site once work has finished, and welcome tenants into their new homes.”
The development is expected to be complete by next summer.
