Inverness Military Wives Choir plans special concerts of remembrance and to help Highland Hospice

Their members have been involved in all manner of special occasions, from performing with pop legend Lulu to making hit records and singing at New York’s legendary Carnegie Hall.

But according to Tracey Walsh, a member of the Inverness Military Wives Choir, the work never stops on planning new events to bolster charity organisations in the region.

The group has just announced details of two Remembrance Concerts which will be held at Inverness Cathedral on Saturday, November 9, including a matinee at 3pm and an evening performance at 7.30pm.

Mrs Walsh, who has been involved with the group for several years, said: “We are raising money for Poppy Scotland, Legion Scotland and Highland Hospice.

“Each performance will last for one-and-a-half hours and refreshments will be served afterwards, with all donations for the refreshments going to one of our choir children – #Stand Up For Sophia – to help her fundraising efforts to buy a specialist wheelchair.

“This is our third year of holding these concerts. We work for five months of the year preparing for them.

“This is such an important time of year to reflect, remember and respect all those who fought and those who died to give us the freedoms we enjoy today.

“We decided to hold a matinee this year, so that those who don’t go out at night or when it is too dark can still be included.”

The women have worked hard to raise awareness of the sacrifices service personnel continue to make across the world.

But they have also chosen to assist organisations which have a wider responsibility for tending to others.

Mrs Walsh added: “Every year, we choose a local charity to support alongside our military charities and this year we have selected Highland Hospice, because it is close to many of our hearts.

“They provide an incredible facility for those families who are going through some of the toughest times they will ever face.”

Tickets can be bought from the Poppy Scotland Shop on Strothers Lane, Legion Scotland on Kings Street, Highland Hospice on Bishops Road, Cathedral Cafe on Ardross Street or online via Eventbrite by searching Inverness Military Wives Choir.
