Vulnerable Skye residents can now take advantage of around 200 extra weekly delivery slots from Tesco after struggling to book slots for weeks.
Shielding category residents had got the point of fearing they would have to break self-isolation to go to the local shops for supplies.
Tesco in Dingwall supplies Skye, and the store management have now added two extra vans to serve Skye and Lochalsh.
Dingwall-based Highland MSP Kate Forbes said she was grateful to the Dingwall team, particularly given recent events at Home Farm.
She said: “I was contacted by several constituents who are in the shielding category and who were deeply concerned at the lack of availability of online food delivery slots from Tesco.
“Given recent events at Home Farm I can understand why this was a particular worry.
“I am hugely grateful for the Dingwall store team, who explored all sorts of options to improve the situation.
“The two extra vans will create almost 200 additional collection slots, so it just goes to show that a can-do attitude often bears fruit.
“As the Tesco system cannot automatically prioritise shielding customers, I would urge everyone booking a collection slot to be conscientious and ensure they actually need it.
“If anyone is still struggling to get a delivery slot, I would encourage them to get back in touch.”
