Police have charged a 23-year-old man in connection with the deaths of two men in Inverness following a late night disturbance.
Officers and emergency services were called to a property in the Balloan Road area around 10pm last night, where the men, aged 28 and 35, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A 27-year-old woman was found injured within the property and was taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment.
The man has also been charged in connection with the injuries caused to the woman.
The 23-year-old is expected to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday.
Detective Chief Inspector David Hadden said: “A significant police presence will remain in the area whilst inquiries continue and I would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation during this time.”
Earlier today a police cordon was put in place around the block of eight one-bedroom flats as officers combed the scene.
A blue tent was erected within the grounds outside the property as forensic officers sifted through recycling bins and searched the property looking for evidence.
Officers also deployed a drone to scan the building’s rooftop and surrounding areas.
Police investigations are ongoing in the Hilton area of Inverness. One local resident described how he saw blue lights streaming in his window as the emergency services arrived at the scene.
He said: “I was watching TV and the blue lights caught the blinds. I went out and saw 11 or 12 police vehicles and two ambulances.
“We never really get bother here. There has been a few instances but never really anything to affect us.”
Another resident, who gave his name as Damian, 35, added: “It’s crazy that something like this has happened close to our doorstep. It’s something you normally see in the movies or on TV. I have lived in Hilton for 10 years. I have never had a situation like this. It’s not too bad a neighbourhood.”
