Work will start on Monday to convert a popular Lochaber road into a vehicle-free route for walkers and wheelers.
Black Parks Road, which runs from Inverlochy to the railway bridge over the River Lochy, is a favourite of cyclists, dog walkers and families.
It is also used by school students cycling and walking to and from Lochaber High and the pre-school kids accessing Stramash nursery.
Despite that already established popularity, the road has experienced a large increase in footfall during lockdown.
Now Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Jahama Highland Estates, Historic Environment Scotland, Inverlochy and Torlundy Community Council, Sustrans and the Highland Soap Company, have assembled to work out how the road can be mae more suitable for walkers and wheelers.
From Monday, the road will be closed to all vehicles, including emergency services.
It will remain closed until Sunday, July 19, while the council carries out drainage and patching to provide a safe surface for pedestrians and cyclists to use.
Limited access will still be available for essential users at both ends of the road.
A second phase see the road closed for 18 months to complete the work, while the hope is phase three will result in Black Parks Road being turned into a permanent cycle route and walkway.
