A venture to deliver a drive-in cinema in Inverness concluded last night as Mel Gibson’s roaring cries for freedom brought down the curtain on the four-night venture.
The drive-in cinema, visited over the course of the weekend by nearly 700, was not without its issues – however, teething problems relating to vehicle size and access to the car park at the Caledonian Stadium on Friday forced a change of strategy.
Parents and children turned out on Friday evening to capture a glimpse of Woody and friends as Toy Story was beamed onto the 40-foot screen, before the car park was full of song and dance on Saturday as slicked back hairstyles and leather jackets took centre stage as the 1978 American musical romantic comedy Grease was streamed over the airwaves.
Sunday evening brought with it a change in genre as moviegoers were taken to Gotham City to take in the origins of Joker, in an award-winning performance from Hollywood actor Joaquin Phoenix, with Mel Gibson set to rally his troops last night as his depiction of William Wallace in Braveheart brought the four-night visit to an end.
Organiser Callum Campbell said:Â “With us all being cooped up in the house, an event like this brings people together safely and there was a buzz from that conviviality.
“We had some issues on Friday with the approach road and vehicle sizes but we were able to iron these out for the remaining viewings.
“It was brilliant to see people come together at a time like this.”
