A new 40mph speed limit will be introduced on a notoriously dangerous stretch of road between Inverness and Nairn following repeated concerns about the route.
Culloden and Ardersier councillors yesterday succeeded in having the 40mph speed limit at the village of Croy extended.
Local elected members and the community council have been involved in discussions with Scotia Homes, which has been building new houses at Croy over the last 18 months, about the potential for a new speed limit at the village.
The costs of the introducing the speed limit order – covering new signs, markings and speed indication devices – will be met by the housing developer.
The section in question is at a junction which extends west along the B9006 Inverness to Fort George road, and east along the B9091 Croy to Nairn road.
Local councillors, including those from adjoining Inverness South, described their experiences of driving along the B9006 – which is notorious for speeding and was the scene of a fatal accident in 2016.
Councillor Roddy Balfour described the road as a “rat run” with an ever-increasing volume of traffic and irresponsible drivers.
“What I see is unbelievable,” he told Inverness area committee members yesterday.
Councillor Andrew Jarvie said drivers regularly top 70mph on the 60mph road.
