A Highland headteacher is one of five finalists in a national competition recognising the work done during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Aileen MacKay is the headteacher of Smithton Primary School in Inverness and has been shortlisted in the Lockdown Legends competition run by training company Tree of Knowledge.
For the past month, pupils, parents and teachers from across Scotland have been nominating their Lockdown Legends – a teacher or member of school staff who has gone above and beyond during the pandemic.
Nominations have now closed, resulting in a grand total of 242 nominations, for 136 individuals including teachers, head teachers, classroom assistants, librarians, technicians and family link workers.
All of the Lockdown Legend nominees are now featuring in a Virtual Hall of Fame, along with a description of their incredible efforts and imaginative responses to the pandemic.
One of the nominees for the Smithton headteacher said: “Aileen has always been a committed and caring headteacher. But during lockdown she was often working 18 hour days to look after the children, parents and staff. She goes above and beyond any regular headteacher.
“Aileen MacKay is a truly committed and caring headteacher unlike no other and she deserves lockdown legend recognition.”
There are two top prizes of a weekend break in a treehouse up for grabs as the initiative moves into the final phase.
The public vote is taking place until Sunday, visit https://treeof.com/blog/2020/08/21/lockdown-legends-finalists-announced
