Four men have been arrested following a large-scale brawl in the centre of Inverness at the weekend.
Shocked members of the public witnessed ugly scenes in Castle Street at around 8.20pm on Saturday, which resulted in a 22-year-old man being taken to Raigmore Hospital with serious injuries.
Police said four men aged, 41, 38, 28 and 20 have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Highland councillor Duncan Macpherson, said he saw the “mass brawl” break out across the road as he visited the city centre.
He said he shouted at the group to stop and called police.
Mr Macpherson said: “I was alerted by the shouting and swearing. A doorman from a bar tried to break it up but he was quickly overcome by a whole pack of people who came hurtling down the road and a whole battle ensued.”
Mr Macpherson said the incident has highlighted a wider issue of some CCTV cameras in the city centre not working.
A police spokeswoman said: “Around 8.20pm on Saturday we received reports of a disturbance on Castle Street, Inverness.
“A 22-year-old man sustained serious injury and was taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment.
“Four men aged, 41, 38, 28 and 20 have been arrested in connection with the incident and inquiries are ongoing.”
