Friends of a teenager who died in the River Nairn have paid tribute to him today.
Alexander Fraser, 19, went missing while he was in the water at the town’s harbour at high tide on Saturday night.
A relative went into the river but could not save him.
A massive search operation was launched for the teenager but his body was not found until 14 hours later.
A helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth was drafted in to assist the efforts of police, Coastguard and lifeboat crews.
Eventually police divers from Aberdeen recovered the teenager’s body from the river, close to a ladder leading to the pier wall.
Mr Fraser’s social networking page described him as a former pupil of Invergordon Academy who also studied vehicle mechanics at Inverness College UHI.
One friend said online: “RIP Alexander Fraser gone but never forgotten.”
And another wrote: “RIP Alexander, you will be well missed. Thoughts go out to your friends and family. RIP you were one of the best. Sleep tight you will be well missed in all our hearts.”
