A ward at the Highland’s flagship hospital has been closed after a confirmed case of the winter vomiting bug.
A number of patients and staff at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness have also suffered symptoms of norovirus.
Ward 6C is now shut to new admissions and no patient will be transferred out until people have been symptom-free for 48 hours.
NHS Highland said last night that enhanced infection control precautions were in place and the infection control team was overseeing the situation.
All staff and visitors have been told to wash their hands with soap and water, which is more effective than hand gel in this instance.
Cleaning has also been increased.
Dr Jonathan Mills, consultant microbiologist for NHS Highland, said: “We can reassure patients and their relatives that we are taking the precautions required while ensuring that there is as little disruption as possible. As always I would ask that visitors do not come into hospital if they are feeling unwell. We would ask family members of patients in Ward 6C to keep visiting to a minimum and to check with the nurse in charge of Ward 6C if they have any questions.”
