Inverness is hosting a very different type of British open this week.
The best draughts players in the uk are battling it out on their boards in the Spectrum Centre in Inverness today as they bid to claim the hotly contested title of British Open champion.
The players will pit their wits against each other for the full week, with about 25 players taking part in the competition.
The tournament has a league format, with the player with the most points claiming the title.
The competition was organised by the Scottish Draughts Association.
Tournament referee Graham Young said: “We are expecting people from all over the place to come to it, not just the Highlands.
“A lot of the organising committee come from Orkney, I’m from Stonehaven and our defending champion is coming back from Northern Ireland to try and win again.
“We’ve got people coming from Bristol as well so it really is a British championship.”
