The body of a man has been recovered from a submerged car following a search by police divers at Duncansby Head, Caithness.
The Police Scotland Dive and Marine Unit began a search with assistance from Wick Lifeboat this morning after a car was reported in the sea below the Duncansby Head cliffs.
Police say inquiries are ongoing into this matter and no further information is available at this time.
The tragic incident was discovered 1.19pm on Wednesday after an Italian tourist spotted the car at the foot of the cliffs.
A search and rescue operation was mounted by police, Coastguard, Wick Lifeboat and the Coastguard helicopter from Sumburgh, Shetland, but due to the car’s location efforts to secure it were not possible and it was lost from sight. The search was stood down overnight.
The dive unit went out about 8am with Wick Lifeboat and later the body of a man was recovered.
