A search has been launched to fund a guide dog which is missing in Nairn.
Tess, a six-year-old curly coated cross Golden retriever, failed to return to its owner during a walk on Wednesday afternoon.
The pair were near the old cemetery next to the River Nairn at around 3pm.
The dog was off the lead at the time. It is understood to be unusual for guide dogs not to return to their owners after a free run.
The owner, a young man from the Nairn area, is too upset to speak.
A spokesman for Guide Dogs Scotland, who issued the appeal, said: “Local police, vets, and the dog warden have been informed.
“Local Guide Dogs volunteers have been and continue to search for Tess, who is a six-year-old black curly coated cross Golden Retriever.
“We urge anyone in Nairn who has seen a dog which matches her description, or who has taken her in for safe keeping, to get in touch with Guide Dogs on 0800 6888409.
“Tess is microchipped and should have Guide Dogs identification tags on her collar.
“The situation is very distressing for the guide dog owner. Tess is not only his close companion, but she is also his means of getting around with freedom and confidence.
“Guide dogs are trained to return to their owner while out free running. It is very rare for a guide dog to go missing while free running off leash.”
