The collision involving two cars took place on the A87 Kyle to Portree road, at Druim Nan Cleochd, south of Sconser, at around 4.20pm.
Four people in total were said to be involved in the collision, which also left two others seriously injured.
The person who died was at the helm of one of the vehicles.

He added: “Further investigation is still underway and Police are appealing for anybody with further information to contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously to Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111.”
