A 71-year-old man is recovering in hospital after falling into a fast-moving river in the Highlands.
Members of the public helped to save the tourist when he slipped into the River Moriston earlier this afternoon.
They managed to throw a rope out to the man, who was able to get himself halfway out of the water.
Their efforts were praised by firefighters.
The incident happened behind Invermoriston Stores at around 1.10pm.
The 71-year-old was walking with a female friend when he slipped and fell into the River Moriston.
The woman raised the alarm at the local shop and members of the public rushed to the scene.
Appliances from Fort Augustus, Fort William, Inverness and the water rescue team from Inverness were sent to the scene, along with paramedics.
Firefighters were able to recover the man from the water and he was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by road ambulance. There is no information on his injuries or condition.
The fire service’s incident commander, Station Manager Derek Wilkie, said: “He had been swept into an area which was very difficult to access and there was a 15 metre (49ft) sheer drop right beside him. The members of the public should be praised for their initial actions by providing him with a rope.
“Once we got there we made sure the area was safe upstream as well as downstream in case anyone else fell in. Our crew from Fort Augustus and the Water Rescue team were then able to properly secure the man and safely recover him from the water.
“We also contacted Scottish and Southern Energy and asked them if they could control the dam system and prevent as much water being released into the area, which really helped and ensured the water levels did not rise any further.”
He added: “This incident was an excellent example of good partnership working, with assistance from quick thinking members of the public.”
