Tourists will get a better view of Nessie thanks to a project to clear overgrown trees and bushes from a busy loch-side route.
Inverness and Loch Ness Tourism Business Improvement District (Bid) has turned two laybys on the south side of Loch Ness into attractive sightseeing and picnic spots.
The initiative to revamp the two laybys, which are on the B852 Dores-Inverfarigaig road, was undertaken with Forestry Commission Scotland and aims to improve the visitor experience in the area.
It is also one of the first projects undertaken by Inverness and Loch Ness Tourism Bid, which was established in March.
The organisation aims to help Loch Ness and Inverness compete with other destinations around the world.
Since their establishment, the board and management team have been working hard to ensure that project activity is underway and that progress is now being made on the business plan.
A commitment to establish a portal website for members is being taken forward and the Bid will issue the contract tender in early autumn.
Colin Marr, chief executive of Eden Court Cinema and chairman of the group’s board, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for tourism. For the first time in many years the tourism businesses in Inverness and Loch Ness are working together to improve the experience of all our visitors and thanks to the levy paying structure the businesses have got a budget to deliver projects on their own or as an equal partner with the public agencies.
“We are very proud to be the UK’s first ever tourism bid but we are also very aware of the need to deliver the objectives laid out in the business plan which will be of real benefit to both tourists and to our levy paying members.”
