A four-year-old Shetland pony will proudly parade at the Highland Tattoo next month to carry on a tradition which began almost 90 years ago.
As mascot of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, Lance Corporal Cruachan IV frequently plays a part in ceremonial duties for the unit.
Princess Louise presented the first Cruachan to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1929, a custom which continued when they became the Fifth Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Cruachan IV, the current regimental mascot, has already had a dress rehearsal of sorts, having twice taken part in the Edinburgh Tattoo earlier this month.
The Highland Military Tattoo takes place at Fort George, near Inverness, from September 4-7.
