The official biographer of the first man on the moon will give a talk in Inverness tomorrow night.
James R. Hansen will appear at the Town House as a guest of the Highlands Astronomical Society.
Mr Hansen wrote “First Man”, the biography of Neil Armstrong, who became the first human to walk on the moon in 1969.
Mr Armstrong avoided fame and wealth from exploiting his achievement and said it took the efforts of many thousands of people to get him and his crew mates to the Moon.
But Mr Hansen finally succeeded on his third attempt to get him Neil to talk about his life, his dangerous moon landing and his Scottish ancestry, as the subject of his best-selling biography.
Mr Hansen is professor of history at Auburn University, Alabama.
An expert on science and technology and its impact on society, Hansen has been a historian for Nasa.
He is the author of eight books on the history of aerospace, including a study of the Apollo programme’s lunar landing method.
He also writes about the history of golf and will be playing at Castle Stuart and Dornoch golf courses.
The Inverness talk, which is free, is supported by Highland Council and will start at 7.30pm.
