A group of divers were enlisted to help Highland Council clean up the River Ness in Inverness yesterday.
The volunteers from Inverness Sub Aqua Club (ISAC) donned their wetsuits and used snorkels to perform an underwater sweep along both banks of the river between Bught Park and Ness Bridge.
Litter collected by the drivers was taken away by community services staff.
It is one of two tasks the club carries out for the local authority.
Members also act as safety marshals to the annual Children 1st River Ness charity raft race.
ISAC chairman, Sam Crymble, said: “Living and working in the Inverness area, our members enjoy some truly magnificent world class diving opportunities around the Highlands.
“We truly appreciate what we have on our own doorsteps and are more than happy to help the council in their efforts to keep our city clean.
“While we are snorkelling for rubbish, it is however very evident that apart from the odd bits of litter at the edges, the river is a very clean and thriving environment.”
Inverness Sub Aqua Club has been a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club since 1968.
The club meets at 7.30pm on Friday evenings at the RNLI Station at North Kessock and trains new members throughout the winter.
