Inverness runway lived up to its name to host a special fundraising event.
The airstrip at Dalcross played host to 37 runners taking part in CLIC Sargent’s first Midnight Runway Run.
Many donned fancy dress including cartoon characters, along with a Wookie and a stormtrooper from Star Wars.
The group ran from one end of the runway to the other and back – a total distance of two miles.
And to celebrate, they joined airport staff for a barbecue.
The fastest man was Dean Kane in a time of 10min 45sec, and the fastest woman was Helen Low at 13min 39sec.
Brian Milligan was the highest individual fundraiser, while the McLeish family was the highest fundraising family.
The Runaway Runway Run nurses won the best fancy dress award and Adelle Mercer won a special award for her support for CLIC Sargent.
Peter Logie, CLIC Sargent’s area fundraising manager, said: “This was a great evening and I was delighted to see runners from afar afield as Orkney, Wick and Inverurie.
“The atmosphere was wonderful with The Tin Pan Alley Swing Band belting out some appropriate classic tunes and we even had a couple of Jedi Wookies to see the runners off.
“A huge thank you to Inverness Airport, our main sponsor Bristow SAR, supported by Balfour Beatty, Ryan McKenzie from Run4It who balanced a laptop on his knee in the dark to do all the timings and our wonderful volunteers who gave up their Saturday evening.”
It will be a while before all the income is in, but it is hoped to raise between £8,000-10,000 for our work with children and young people with cancer in the Highlands.”
