Emergency services including Kessock Lifeboat were called to Inverness city centre after reports that a man was in the River Ness.
It happened in the early hours of yesterday, near the Greig Street Bridge, with police and ambulance crews also deployed to the area.
Police confirmed that they had attended, at 12.05am, and found that the man was in shallow water.
He was arrested and detained in custody for further inquiries.
A spokesman for Kessock Lifeboat Station said: “Our volunteer crew responded to a request to help Police Scotland at an incident just after midnight at the River Ness.
“Thankfully on the occasion our help was not required and the crew was stood down at around 12.30am.”
