A popular Inverness bar is holding an Independence Day party today – but it could be a costly day out for No voters.
Gellions bar on Bridge Street, one of the few openly Yes establishments in the city, has optimistically put out a chalkboard saying Yes voters will be charged a reasonable £3 a pint, but pro-union voters would have to stump up £30 for a pint.
Manager Rory Munro said the party was “just a bit of fun”, adding he didn’t expect to sell many £30 pints.
A board placed outside the bar said that all were welcome to the Bridge Street establishment – “except Cameron” meaning Prime Minister David.
Punters were also urged to wear a dash of tartan to claim a free whisky.
Mr Munro said: “I don’t think anybody in their right mind would declare themselves as a No voter and pay £30.
“It’s just a bit of fun to mark the occasion.”
Gellions is noted as one of the venues for popular Jacobite band Schiehallion who will be playing today.
