A ward in the city’s flagship hospital reopened today after tests showed it was all clear for the norovirus bug.
Medical ward 2A at Raigmore Hospital was closed to new admissions and restricted visiting was put in place on Friday after initial testing showed a positive result for the winter vomiting bug.
This is standard policy and part of the precautionary measures to protect patients as it helps reduce the spread of the virus as much as possible.
The test which was done last week was a screening test and one patient was confirmed to have norovirus.
A NHS spokeswoman said: “Further confirmation testing has since come back as negative, both tests were repeated and again came back as negative for norovirus.
“The ward has reopened immediately and visiting is allowed as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure caused.
“However we would still ask that members of the public who have had diarrhoea and/or vomiting or live with someone who has, do not come into hospital until they have been symptom free for 48 hours.”
